Football Legends Vie for Hall of Fame
A group of legendary football players are one step closer to the highest honor in the sport. The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced on Wednesday that 25 players, including some of the most recognizable names in recent NFL history, are semifinalists for the 2025 class.
Among the star-studded list of nominees are:
* Eli Manning: The two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback who led the New York Giants to unexpected victories.
* Antonio Gates: The prolific tight end who revolutionized the position with his athleticism and skill.
* Jared Allen: The dominant pass rusher known for his relentless pursuit of quarterbacks.
This year's class also includes a number of players who are in their first year of eligibility, such as:
* Luke Kuechly: The former Defensive Player of the Year linebacker.
* Terrell Suggs: Another former Defensive Player of the Year.
* Adam Vinatieri: The all-time leading scorer in NFL history.
* Earl Thomas: The three-time Pro Bowl safety.
* Marshal Yanda: The two-time All-Pro guard.

How Does the Selection Process Work?
To be inducted into the Hall of Fame, a player must receive 80% of the votes from the selection committee. The committee will narrow down the list of 25 semifinalists to 15 finalists, and then vote on the final class of inductees.
In addition to the modern-era players, the committee will also vote on candidates for the senior, contributor, and coach categories. These categories honor players from earlier eras, individuals who made significant contributions to the league off the field, and coaches who have had a lasting impact on the game.
The 2025 Pro Football Hall of Fame class will be announced before the Super Bowl.
